Questions about filling out Form I-131

Which application type do I select for advance parole with a pending green card application?

Select the box for an Advance Parole Document for someone inside the United States, based on a pending Form I-485.

If you file Form I-131 separately from your Form I-485, the form asks for the I-485 receipt number in the same item.

What do I need to know about my trip before I fill out the travel section?

The form asks about your proposed travel, such as the expected departure date, the purpose of the trip, the countries you plan to visit and how long you expect to be away.

You also indicate whether you are requesting a document for one trip or for multiple trips. Plans can change, but the answers should reflect your intentions when you file.

Can I leave the United States while Form I-131 is pending?

Leaving before the advance parole document is approved can cause serious problems, including USCIS treating your Form I-485 as abandoned.

The travel considerations guide explains the risks and the limited exceptions. If you must travel urgently, speak with an immigration attorney first.
